Mangiagli Manufacturing

The story of Mangiagli Manufacturing starts in the 1960’s when Steve Mangiagli started to shape and glass surfboards out of his parents house in Torrance, CA. The first surfboards were for himself and a few friends. He soon started to purchase shaped blanks from Phil Becker at the Rick Surfboards manufacturing facility, laminate the boards at home, and bring the boards back to Rick Surfboards for finish sanding. In the summer of 1970 the laminator for Rick Surfboards, Mike Bright, asked Steve to be his assistant laminator. In the summer of 1971 Mike left the company and Steve was asked to be the full time laminator for Rick Surfboards. In 1975 Rick of Rick Surfboards passed away allowing the Hamilton family who owned Reef Surfboards to purchase both the manufacturing facility and retail store. In 1976 Steve Mangiagli bought the manufacturing facility from the Hamiltons creating Mangiagli Manufacturing. Mangiagli Manufacturing continued to produce Rick surfboards but also started to produce surfboards for other companies like Kanoa Surf in Manhattan Beach, and Natural Progression in Santa Monica. In the winter of 1979/1980 Phil Becker, Steve Mangiagli, and Dave Hollander opened the retail store Becker Surfboards on Pier Ave in Hermosa Beach.

Today Mangiagli Manufacturing is a full service contract facility offering laminating and repair services for a number of surfboard brands.
